Courtney...what you need to get for your backyard is called erosion mat (lowes and home depot should have it). It comes in rolls and you roll it out on the hill and other bare spots and nail it down with landscaping nails. Over a short period of time the mat will start to grow grass. The roots from the grass will hold your soil together and solve your problem.
