Hello friends and family,
Well its D-day +40 or there about and here is the latest on our little darling. As reported in previous updates she has done well with all of her various treatments and continues to grow and gain weight.. (7lbs + currently). The only hang up she was having was going to the bathroom... she is such a little lady. As it turns out, as a result of her NEC she has a small stricture in her large intestines that is inhibiting her going potty normally. (she refused to go without a suppository). The stricture is about 4-5cm long and is located in the top right corner of her large intestines and will require surgery to repair. Our Neonatologist has assured us that the surgery is very routine to the pediatric surgeons and she should come through it with flying colors. There will be no need for an ostomy or anything like that and he said that usually about a week after surgery they will resume feedings and normal growth can be expected. She will be transferred to Childrens hospital (here in Birmingham for you out-of-towners) tomorrow morning and then following a few tests, (upper GI etc) we imagine that the surgery will take place later this week. She will also R and R at Childrens until she is discharged into our loving arms. It will be bitter-sweet saying goodbye to UAB because we have gotten so close to some of the nurses and love our doctor. (Dr. Rune "Rooney" Thoms) That being said we wont hesitate to go if it gets our little baby closer to home. Thanks again for everyones thoughts and prayers and enjoy our newest round of photos.
We love you all
Clay and Renea
